When I first established the Kamikaze Press in 1993 I was asked whether it was wise to give the press such a playful name. I envisaged Kamikaze as a highly appropriate and provocative epithet for the project I had in mind. Taking on a defunct press with retired working processes soon to be swept away in a tidal wave of new age media and digital technology seemed to be gloriously insane. ‘Divine Wind’ is the literal Japanese meaning of the word ‘Kamikaze’ something that has little association with suicide bombs or bombers. However there’s often a twist in the inference of common parlance, a warning sign on the road ahead.
